Sabika Shaban

Sabika Shaban is a researcher in disability studies, specializing in family experiences of disability and policy efficacy in the Arab Gulf States. She is affiliated with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar Foundation (QF). Her work explores the microeconomics of childhood disability in Qatar, as well as disability policymaking and inclusive education in the Arab Gulf region. Shaban is presently pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the widespread phenomenon of children with disabilities unable to enter the education space in the Gulf context.  

Shaban is also the founder of the Qatar Disability Resource (QADR), a platform addressing information gaps within the disability community and helping build human connections and support. She serves on multiple boards and taskforces in Qatar, advocating for progressive action to advance the rights of people with disabilities in the country.
