His works focus on the implications of globalization and technology on education. He has published over 100 articles and 20 books, including\u00a0<span class=\"s1\"><i>Who\u2019s Afraid of the Big Bad Dragon: Why China has the Best (and Worst) Education System in the World<\/i><\/span><i>,\u00a0<\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Catching-Leading-Way-Education-Globalization\/dp\/1416608737\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1326830836&amp;sr=8-1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Catching Up or Leading the Way: American Education in the Age of Globalization<\/i><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/zhaolearning.com\/2009\/08\/06\/96\/world-class-learners-my-new-book\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students<\/i><\/span><\/a>. He is a recipient of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aera.net\/AboutAERA\/AwardsandHonors\/EarlyCareerAward\/tabid\/12779\/Default.aspx\"><span class=\"s1\">Early Career Award from the American Educational Research Association<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and was named one of the 2012 10 most influential people in educational technology by the\u00a0<span class=\"s1\"><i>Tech &amp; Learn Magazine<\/i><\/span>. He is an elected fellow of the International Academy for Education. His latest book\u00a0<i>World Class Learners<\/i>\u00a0has won several awards including the Society\u00a0of\u00a0Professors\u00a0of\u00a0Education\u00a0Book Award (2013), Association of Education Publishers\u2019 (AEP) Judges\u2019 Award and Distinguished Achievement Award in Education Leadership(2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Until December, 2010, Yong Zhao was University Distinguished Professor at the College of Education, Michigan State University, where he also served as the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Technology, executive director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/experiencechinese.com\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Confucius Institute<\/span><\/a>, as well as the US-China Center for Research on Educational Excellence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Zhao was born in China\u2019s Sichuan Province. He received his B.A. in English Language Education from Sichuan Institute of Foreign Languages in Chongqing, China in 1986. After teaching English in China for six years, he came to Linfield College as a visiting scholar in 1992. He then began his graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993. He received his A.M. in Education in 1994 and Ph.D. in 1996.
