Dr. Prachi Srivastava is tenured Associate Professor at the School of International Development and Global Studies, University of Ottawa, and Visiting Research Fellow, ISAS, National University of Singapore in the area of education and international development, with a regional focus on South Asia. She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford.<\/p>\n
Dr. Srivastava coined the now widely accepted term \u201clow-fee private schooling\u201d and was one of the first researchers to conduct work on this sector in India, which she has been researching for over a decade. Her work has been featured in the hallmark \u201cUNESCO Education for All Global Monitoring Report\u201d. Dr. Srivastava\u2019s latest book,\u00a0Low-fee Private Schooling: aggravating equity or mitigating disadvantage?\u00a0<\/i>(Symposium Books, Oxford, 2013), has been independently reviewed as \u201ca brilliant starting point\u201d in\u00a0Power and Education<\/i>\u00a0and \u201cof special value\u201d in the\u00a0British Journal of Educational Studies<\/i>.<\/p>\n
She has written extensively on the privatization of education; non-state private actors and global philanthropy in education; and global education policy; and delivered numerous conference papers and invited symposia on the topics. Dr. Srivastava has provided expertise to a number of agencies and international organizations, including the former Canadian International Development Agency, the UK Department for International Development, UNESCO, and the World Bank.<\/p>\n
Dr. Srivastava has attracted close to $450,000 in external research funding. She is Principal Investigator on a major SSHRC-funded project on the right to education in India and the role of non-state private actors (e.g. Corporate Social Responsibility units, consultancies, think tanks, philanthropies, etc.) in the Global South.<\/p>\n
