Joel Bergner (aka Joel Artista) is a mural artist and Co-Founder, Co-Executive Director of the organization Artolution, which uses collaborative public art-making to address issues of conflict, displacement and trauma. Artolution trains and supports local artists in vulnerable communities to lead their own arts-based programs with children and youth, using the Artolution methodology to affect thousands of lives each year. These programs are now running in the South Sudanese refugee settlements of Uganda, the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh, Syrian camps and communities in Jordan, conflict-affected areas of Colombia as well as other locations around the world. Each mural, sculpture and performance is designed and created with local youth, providing a platform to tell their own stories and express their dreams for the future in a public forum. Artolution’s partners include Education Above All, UNICEF, UNHCR, IOM, International Rescue Committee and many others.
