Professor Roberto Filippi

Roberto Filippi is a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience in Education at University College London, where he leads research and teaching on the cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions of multilingualism across the lifespan. His work bridges psychology, education, and neuroscience through projects examining how language and culture shape learning, wellbeing, and leadership.

He supervises several international collaborative projects, including large-scale studies on the relationship between multilingualism, socio-economic status, and academic performance, as well as a new longitudinal project on cognitive and academic development in dual-language schools.

Roberto has published widely in leading journals, and his work has received international recognition, including the 2023 Ampersand Best Paper Award. He is committed to public engagement on language learning and cognitive development, and advises schools, policymakers, and organizations on the benefits of multilingual education.

Before entering academia, Roberto spent thirty years in multinational companies, gaining extensive leadership experience in cross-cultural management—experience he continues to draw on in his research and teaching.
