Richard Hoffman has been the South Sudan Country Manager for the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI) since January 2021. A citizen of the United States, Mr. Hoffman has been working on development and humanitarian programming for three decades, primarily overseas in senior-level management positions, including as Country Director for several organizations. Mr. Hoffman has been working in South Sudan for the past eight years, including give years with USAID. Mr. Hoffman’s international development career has included senior-level management positions for US-based NGOs working in sub-Saharan Africa, South America and Eastern Europe. More recently, he has worked primarily in Africa, including (in addition to South Sudan) positions in Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola. Mr. Hoffman has worked extensively on peacebuilding, youth empowerment, gender rights and education programming. He is a strong advocate for the rights of vulnerable children, as attested by his active and long-term involvement in several programs for their benefit in South Sudan.
