Souyeth Kret

Student, Liger Leadership Academy

Souyeth Kret is a Cambodian student from the Liger Leadership Academy (LLA) in Phnom Penh. She attended a public school for four years, and in 2012, she was awarded a full residential scholarship to continue her studies in middle and highschool at the project-based academy mentioned above. At LLA she has been exposed to a life beyond academic focuses: a unique education with an innovative STEM and entrepreneurial curriculum, as well as instruction in leadership skills, which are learned through exploration projects, internship opportunities and experiential-based learning. Among the many opportunities and projects offered at the academy, Souyeth was involved in leading a session called “Language” during a student led gender summit. She mentored a group of juniors from her school for an all-girls tech startup competition, and facilitated as well as piloted soft skill modules by the International Labor Organization (ILO), to highschool and university students in Cambodia. She believes that in order for her country to thrive in such a competitive world and take advantage of the rapidly growing investments, Cambodian students need to be able to think critically, solve problems creatively, and be self aware of their surrounding opportunities as well as themselves. With this drive, Souyeth is determined to improve her country’s education system with small changes, by working with the ILO and the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports to implement soft skill modules into the government school’s curriculum.
