Omar Alshogre

Omar Alshogre is a Syrian human rights advocate, former political prisoner, and the Director for Detainee Affairs at the Syrian Emergency Task Force. Arrested at the age of 15 for participating in pro-democracy protests, he spent nearly three years in Syria’s most notorious prisons before being released and resettling in Sweden. He later studied at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., focusing on international relations, psychology, and justice.

Today, Omar shares his story worldwide, speaking at institutions such as the United Nations, U.S. Congress, Harvard University, and the Oslo Freedom Forum. His work amplifies the voices of political prisoners, preserves the memory of Syria’s detainees, and pushes for global accountability and human rights.
