Monique Chism

Under Secretary for Education, Smithsonian Institution
United States of America

Dr. Monique M. Chism is the Under Secretary for Education at the Smithsonian Institution. In this role she oversees the Institution’s educational priorities to benefit learners of all ages. She is a transformative leader with over 24 years of experience in education and 15 years of experience leading complex organizations and projects. As a former teacher, state administrator, and federal policymaker she brings a unique lens and set of experiences to the work, with a focus on equity and systems change. Previously, Chism was the vice president for education policy and strategic initiatives at the American Institutes for Research. Prior to that she served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Programs at the U.S. Department of Education. In both organizations she led teams focused on promoting academic excellence and enhancing educational opportunities for all children and families.

Husa Alangari

Husa Alangari is an assistant professor of instructional design and technology at the School of Education at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) and consultant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She received her MSEd and PhD in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington. Her research focuses on instructional design, faculty professional development, artificial intelligence in education, and innovative learning pedagogies and practices through qualitative and mixed methods research. Her professional work experience spans over 20 years at the Ministry of Education, Princess Nourah University, Center for Educational Evaluation and Policy at Indiana University, Healthcare Leadership Academy, and the National e-Learning Center. She is the recipient of the Education 2.0 Outstanding Leadership Award, the 2021 Technology, Instruction, Cognition, & Learning SIG’s Outstanding International Research Collaboration Award from the American Educational Research Association, and a nominee of the 2019 Martin Luther King Building Bridges Award from Indiana University.
