Nadia Nadim left Afghanistan as a refugee when she was 12. Since then she has played professionally in four different countries, for the likes of Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City, as well as winning league titles in both USA and France. She speaks nine languages and is attending medical school at Aarhus University, specializing in reconstructive surgery. Nadim has earned 99 caps for the Danish national team, she was named the Danish player of the year in 2016 and 2017, and was named by Forbes in 2018 as one of the Most Powerful Women in International Sports. In 2017 she was also awarded “Dane of the Year” by the notable Berlingske Media in Denmark.
