Joel M. Smith, Vice Provost and CIO at Carnegie Mellon University, also directs the Office of Technology for Education and is co-Principal Investigator of the Open Learning Initiative. He has served on advisory boards for Apple Computer, Intel Corporation, Internet2, Campus Technology and a number of universities. He has a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Pittsburgh.
