Norma Baján is the Executive Director of MAIA Guatemala. Originally from a remote Maya Kachiquel village, Norma is the first in her family to complete university. Prior to joining MAIA, Norma worked in the women’s microcredit movement for eight years. In 2018, Norma was recognized by Women Have Wings for her commitment to girls’ education. In 2019, UNFPA and Nómada recognized Norma as a leader of social transformation. In 2020, Norma co-authored her first academic publication on Vocal Empowerment of girls. Norma is based in the MAIA Impact School in Sololá and has led MAIA’s efforts in Guatemala since 2010.
